KABUL): Some prisoners at the Pul-i-Charkhi Prison in Kabul went on hunger strike by sewing up their lips against inordinate delays in disposal of their cases and uncertain future.

Pajhwok Afghan News on Wednesday received a video clip showing two of the detainees, who said they began hunger strike on Wednesday evening. As they remained in prison, their future was uncertain there was no one to follow their cases.

In the videotape, a young detainee highlighted the plight of prisoners. “My name is Javed, I was jailed on murder charges nine years ago when I was only 16 years old. Consistent torture forced me into confessing to the charge. My fate has since been hanging in the balance…”

Another detainee sharing his cell had committed suicide, claimed Javed, who said the vice-president had assured his family three years back that his case would be decided soon, but there the legal process was yet to be initiated.

According to him, the jail administration had helped him to some extent, but the attorney office and courts paid little attention to his president. Javed urged the relevant authorities to help him take his case to the court.
