KABUL’s port city of Karachi on Friday, forcing poll cancellation in his constituency.

The proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the shooting in Korangi area, with the group’s spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan warning of continued attacks on candidates of mainstream secular parties.

Sadiq Zaman Khattak, contesting the elections from Karachi’s NA-254 constituency, was shot to death along with his three-year-old son near a mosque. Four others, including two children, were injured, Dawn.Com reported.

Elsewhere in the metropolis, two lawyers were shot dead by unknown assailants on the busy Jinnah Bridge in the limits of Baghdadi Police Station.

In the buildup to the general election, violence has spiked in the country. Nearly 70 people have been killed in attacks on politicians and their supporters since April 11.

Also on Friday, the TTP warned people against casting their votes in the elections. In letters pasted on walls in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the group said democracy was against the teachings of Islam.
