SHARAN (PAN commander was killed and another wounded during a clash with security personnel in southeastern Paktika province on Friday.
The gunbattle erupted in the Mirzak village on the outskirts of Sharan, the provincial capital, in the afternoon, resident Azizullah told Pajhwok Afghan News. He identified the slain Taliban commander as Sabir Shah.
But the governor’s spokesman, Mukhlis Afghan, claimed two militant leaders were killed after they ambushed a joint patrol of police and intelligence personnel in the village.
With the Taliban yet to comment on the incident, a source in the civil hospital confirmed receiving the insurgent commander’s body from the battle scene.
