Afghans won’t accept Pakistani cards: Musazai

Afghans won’t accept Pakistani cards: Musazai

May 05, 2013 - 23:20

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Afghanistaninfo-icon on Sunday voiced its concern at issuance of Pakistani identity cards and payments to some residents of the Goshta border town in eastern Nangarhar province.

Some members of the Wolesi Jirga on Saturday alleged Pakistaninfo-icon had issued identity cards to a number of Goshta residents, but the district chief spurned the claim as groundless.

“We have also heard about these reports that are a cause for serious concern for us. However, we are confident the Afghans would never accept such efforts by outsiders,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman said.

Janan Musazai told a media briefing in Kabul that the honours the Afghans had given to the border policeman killed in the Goshta clash on Wednesday night were a befitting reply to Pakistan.

He said Afghanistan was trying to stop work on the border gate and destroy the security posts built by Pakistani forces on Afghan soil in the area.

“The Durand Lineinfo-icon issue could be resolved only when the twin scourge of terrorism and extremism in the region is addressed. Regrettably, both problems have their roots in Pakistan,” the spokesman remarked, hoping the border spat would not hamper unity between the peoples living on both sides.
