KABUL): Six bridges and a road would be built in central and northern provinces to provide residents with better transportation facilities, the minister of public works said on Monday.

Contracts for execution of the World Bank (WB)-funded projects were signed between the ministry and private construction companies in Kabul.

The projects, including six bridges, will be implemented in Panjsher, Parwan, Kunduz, Takhar and Maidan Wardak provinces, according to a statement from the ministry. A 14-kilometre road in Balkh province is included in the schemes.

Mohammad Akbar Barakzai, the deputy minister of public works, said the projects costing $3.21 million (181 million afs) would be implemented under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP).
