Maj. Gen. Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, who visited northern Takhar province, told Pajhwok Afghan News his ministry was making efforts at detaining drug smuggling gangs in the country, especially in the north.
Ahmadi, who was invited to a ceremony that saw confiscated drugs torched in Taloqan, the provincial capital, revealed eight of the top-10 notorious drug traffickers on the ministry’s list had been arrested last year.
The torched drugs included more than 980 kilograms of opium, 130kg of heroin, 170kg of hashish, 340 litres of acid used in processing drugs, 150 litres of alcoholic beverages that had been seized during operations in different areas of the province, according to Lt. Gen. Khair Mohammad Timori, the provincial police chief.
