 KABUL): Twelve people were killed and10 others injured during separate incidents of violence in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.

In southern Ghazni province, four Public Order Police personnel were killed and another injured during a roadside bombing on Tuesday morning, the Civil Hospital director said.

Dr. Baz Mohammad Himmat told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place when a police vehicle struck the bomb in Jabbarkhel area on the Kabul-Kandahar highway.

Eight armed rebels, including a commander, were killed in the Chasht-i-Sharif district of western Herat province on Monday night, said Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, the police spokesman. He identified the commander as Mullah Esmatullah.

Elsewhere in province, an Iranian citizen named Abul Fazal was arrested along with two kilograms of drugs at the Islam Qala Dry Port on Monday evening, the police official said.

Nine people were injured during a roadside bomb blast in the Qaisar district of northern Faryab province, said the town’s administrative head, Abdul Jamil Siddiqui.

 He added the explosives rigged to a motorbike went off in front of a healthcare centre in the Chehelgazi area of district.
