MAIMANA (PAN): Five insurgents and a security guard were killed during a clash in the Qaisar district of northern Faryab province, an official said on Tuesday.
District chief, Abdul Jamil Siddiqui, said a group of Taliban, who gathered in the Din Tash area of the town on Monday evening, came under attack from area residents.
On Tuesday morning, security forces also reached the scene to help the people, he said. The Taliban suffered heavy casualties in the clash, he said, adding exact figures were not immediately known.
The attack on rebels was carried out by bodyguards of a Wolesi Jirga member, Fathullah Qaisari with cooperation from residents, the district chief said. He added one of bodyguard of the MP was killed and two others were injured.
A tribal elder, Rahmatullah, claimed five Taliban were killed, seven others wounded and 10 motorcycles seized.
