PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Fourteen guards of the central prison in northern Baghlan province have been arrested in connection with a recent jailbreak, an official said on Thursday.
Brig. Gen. Afandi Rabati, the jail superintendent, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two prisoners — each serving a 16 years term on murder and robbery charges — had escaped in the incident.
Two months ago, one murder convict escaped from the jail but was re-arrested, the official said. Three inmates who escaped a month ago were also recaptured with the help of intelligence agents.
The jail in Kilgi area was built with the support of America, and recently hundreds of prisoners were shifted there from Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan.
