KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Thursday conferred the Medal of Courage on Mohammad Qasim, a border policeman who was killed in last week’s clash with Pakistani forces.
Karzai announced the posthumous award for Qasim at a meeting with the victim’s family at the Presidential Palace in Kabul this afternoon, a statement from his office said.
At the meeting, Cabinet Secretariat chief Sadiq Mudabira read out the presidential decree conferring the medial on the slain policeman in recognition of his supreme courage and martyrdom.
Martyred in the Goshta border skirmish, the policeman was granted promotion to the rank of 2nd lieutenant and a plot of land for his family, which would regularly receive his salary (16,000 afs) on a monthly basis.
