KANDAHAR CITY (PAN militants have blown up three power pylons in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, disrupting electricity supply to several areas, an official said on Thursday.

The attacks took place late on Wednesday during an anti-Pakistani protest that turned violent after some insurgents opened fire at security personnel. The rebels and their supporters later bombed the pylons.

Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants also cut power cable between the Kajaki district of Helmand province and Kandahar.

He added the fighters had also snatched tools from engineers, causing power supply disruption in Kandahar City. As a result, residents were diesel power generators, the spokesman concluded.
