KABUL): Eight individuals were convicted on drug-trafficking charges and awarded different jail sentences of by the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) on Monday.
Prison sentences from eight to 18 years were awarded to the men from Helmand, Nangarhar, Nimroz, Kandahar, Kapisa, Badghis, Herat, Ghor and Kunar provinces by the appellant court.
A CJTF spokesman, Ahmad Khalid Mowahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News police had detained the traffickers with more than 59 kilograms of heroin, 700 kg of opium, 340 kg of morphine, five tonnes of chemical substances and 670 kg of hashish.
The accused, having defence attorneys to plead their cases, were convicted at separate judicial trials based on evidence brought before the court under the counter-narcotics law.
