KABUL, Irrigation and Livestock on Monday announced 200-hectare pistachio forests were being rehabilitated in western Badghis province.
The forests would be revived in Abkamari and Qadis districts of the province where pistachio seeds had been sown, a process that would cost $45298 (25million afs).
Hashmatullah Nasiri, the ministry spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News funds for the pistachio forest rehabilitation project would be provided from the ministry’s development budget.
He said the ministry would be responsible for the irrigation and protection of the forests for three years, creating employment opportunities for locals.
Nasiri added the management of natural resources was an important part of the strategy for promoting the agricultural sector. The ministry would step up efforts at reforestation, restoring meadows and water resources.
