LASHKARGAH (PAN): A suicide bomber was blown up by his own explosives before he could reach a Georgian military base in southern Helmand province, officials said on Monday.
The bomber aimed to target Georgian soldiers in the Landi Nava area of Musa Qala district, but his suicide vest exploded prematurely, police officer Col. Mohammad Ismail Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the blast, saying an explosive-laden vehicle was on the way to the military base, but failed to reach the foreign troops.
But Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, claimed 17 British soldiers were killed and many others wounded in what he called a group attack, involving suicide bombers.
