JALALABAD (PAN): One policeman was killed and 10 others, including civilians, were injured in two back-to-back explosions in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, official and witnesses said.

The detonations took place close to the Sherzai Stadium in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, at around 8:30 am whem many students were going to schools and people to the city.

One witness said several people had been injured in the twin explosions. The first blast occurred in front of the stadium and the second happened soon after police reached the scene.

Atta Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan: “I took five injured, including two children, to a van that carried them to hospital.”

Police spokesman, Hazrat Husain Mashriqiwal, said one policeman was killed and 10 pople, including two policemen and eight civilians, were injured. The area was cordoned off by police, he said, adding an investigation had been launched. 

Provincial hospital director, Dr. Humayun Zahir, confirmed receiving 10 injured people — one in critical condition.
