KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): A runaway woman was shot dead during a clash between security personnel and robbers in the northern province of Kunduz, officials said on Friday.

Shabnam, hailing from Mazar-i-Sharif, eloped with Kabul resident Naveed to Takhar province on Thursday night. The bus they were traveling in was stopped by robbers in the Khanabad district of Kunduz.

The administrative head of the town, Hayatullah Amiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News two security officials on the bus exchanged fire with the robbers, killing the 24-year-old woman.

Police reached the scene and arrest the Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier, the bus driver and Naveed for interrogations, he said. The victim’s body was shifted to hospital, said the director of women’s affairs, Nadira Gayah.

Since March 21, 2013, seven women’s deaths have been reported in the province, she said, warning the trend would increase if perpetrators were not punished.
