KABUL): A training institute of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) was inaugurated in the capital Kabul on Sunday.

The MRRD institute, specialised for research works, cost $7 million, with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) providing $6 million to the project, RRD Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak told the inauguration ceremony.

He said  MRRD employees would receive training at the facility that has 40 rooms, a conference hall, a library, a laboratory, a training room and other facilities.

The institute that took 18 months to complete would help improve skills of the ministry officials, he said, adding health ministries employees graduated from high school would also be trained at the institute.

ECO official Altaf Asghar said his organisation had helped developed Kabul Zoo, constructed a hospital in Faryab and built a school in Bamyan.

Promising continued support, he added the ECO was part of a railroad project that would connect Turkey, Iran, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, China and Afghanistan.
