MEHMOOD RAQI (PAN): Seven rebels and a police officer were killed during separate clashes in central Kapisa and northeastern Badakhshan provinces, officials said.
Insurgents attacked a patrolling police party in the Hesa Duwum Kohistan district of Kapisa province on Tuesday evening, the governor’s spokesman Qais Qaderi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In the ensuing clash, a counternarcotics police officer and three attackers were killed and another police officer and a policeman were wounded, he added.
The wounded were taken to a nearby hospital and their condition is said to be stable.
Police also recovered a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) and a Kalashnikov from the clash site, where the dead bodies of Taliban militants were still lying, the official said.
In Badakhshan, four Taliban militants were killed and a fifth wounded during a four-hour clash with police on Tuesday afternoon in Shah-i-Buzurg district, the governor’s spokesman said.
Maroof Rasikh said the clash erupted during an anti-poppy campaign that resulted into the destruction of poppy crops grown over 150 hectares of land in four districts.
