Civilian among 9 killed in incidents

May 22, 2013 - 12:43

LASHKARGAH/ GHAZNI CITY (PANinfo-icon): Eight insurgents and a civilian have been killed in two separate incidents in southern Helmand and Ghazni provinces, officials said on Wednesday.

Eight insurgents were killed and four others wounded on Tuesday during special operations by Afghan forces in the Andar district of southern Ghazni province, the spokesman for the second brigade of 203rd Tandar Military Crops, Nazifullah Sultani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Four policemen were also wounded during the operations, he said.

A Talibaninfo-icon spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, rejected the claim as baseless, saying 11 policemen were killed during the clash while four civilians were also injured by police firings.

Separately, a civilian was killed and three others wounded in a roadside bombing in the Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning when people were carrying their patients to a hospital in the district centre, the governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, said.
