KABUL): Seventeen Kabul University students on fast were Thursday hospitalised after their heath condition deteriorated, fellow students said.

As many as 71 students of the social sciences faculty have been on hunger strike over the past four days against what they say inappropriate behavior of the faculty dean and a teacher who they also accuse of discrimination against some students.

More than 300 students on Thursday gathered in front of the parliament building, calling for reforms and end to law violations, discrimination, injustice, bad behaviour by their teachers.

The students accused faculty dean Abdul Farooq, and lecturer Mohammad Faisal Amin of discrimination against them and demanded their termination.

Of the 71 students on hunger strike, the health condition of 17 deteriorated and were shifted to hospital, a third year student, Hamidullah, said.

He said they spent their days and nights in the open while on fast, but no government official nor any civil society activist bothered to visit them.

Another student, Hakim Muradi, said reforms should be introduced throughout the university and should not be confined  only to the social sciences faculty.
