Police upbeat to find Nabi’s father till evening

JALALABAD (PAN): A police official on Thursday expressed his hope that Mohammad Nabi’s 60-year-old father, Khobi Khan, would be found and released from his abductors until this evening.

Without going into details, Nangarhar deputy police chief Col. Masoom Khan Hashmi said police had launched an intensive search operation to rescue Khan kidnapped three days ago in the Saracha area of Jalalabad, the provincial capital, near his home.

He said intelligence information had raised their hopes for the release of Khan till this evening. He would not go into further details.

A senior cricket board official in Nangarhar, Qarar Azizi, praised security forces for their struggle to rescue Nabi’s father.

A provincial council member, Zabihullah Zamaray called on the government to accelerate efforts at finding the cricket star’s father in order to avoid any untoward situation that could arise from the kidnapping.

A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Khobi Khan was held captive somewhere in Nangarhar and that he would be released soon.

Cricket board president Shazada Masoud told foreign media police were assisting but there had been no leads or any contact since Khan was taken from his car on Tuesday.

He said Nabi told him his family has no personal disputes and he is shocked at the abduction.

Nabi has been influential in promoting Afghan cricket. He learned to play while living in a refugee in Pakistan and was named team captain in March.
