Power expansion project launched in Tirinkot
TIRINKOT (PAN): Work on a power expansion project aimed at extending electricity to thousands of families in central Uruzgan province was launched on Monday, officials said.
The 70 million afghanis project would help extend electricity connections to 3000 families in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, the governor’s spokesman, Abdullah Himmat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the provincial government also planned to provide permanent connections to people through constructing hydropower dams.
Uruzgan water and energy director Abdul Sami thanked the provincial governor for his efforts to approve the project by the central government.
He said the power extension project would take eight months to complete.
“Electricity is one of the people’s basic needs, but we have long been deprived of this facility,” a Tirinkot resident, Abdul Karim, said.
