MEHMOOD RAQI (PAN): Fifty-seven of the 65 suspected insurgents were released in central Kapisa province on Thursday, a day after they were arrested by a joint Afghan-US force, an official said.

The individuals were detained during a joint operation in the Shinki area of Ala Sayee town, the district police chief, Col. Abdul Jalil Shamal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said 57 of them were released and the remaining eight remained in custody after they were confirmed having links with insurgents.

District development council chief, Haji Arif, who is a also resident of the town, confirmed the release of 57 people, but insisted all the individuals were innocent and had no connections with any insurgent group.
