Khostis want potable water, edu & health facilities

 KHOST CITY (PAN facilities and improved seeds as their main problems, requesting officials to address these issues.

Noor Shah Khan, a tribal elder from Sabari district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that there was only one health clinic at district level, but is not equipped with personnel and equipments sufficiently.

 

Residents do not have access to basic health services when they visit a health facility. As a result they are obliged to shift their patients to Khost city or Peshawar of Pakistan for treatment.

 

Wali u Rahman, the resident Tani district of the province, said the health care centre lacked personnel and equipment, obliging residents to shift their patients to the provincial capital for treatment. He said Afghan government should provide enough equipment to health care centers and recruit professional and skilled individuals, if the government wanted to provide good services to the people.

 

Recently Ministry of Public Health constructed a health clinic in the town, Mubarak Zadran, a tribal elder from Spira district said.

 

The Health Net Organization, assisting with the ministry has promised to recruit female doctors for the clinic, he added.

 

Over the past three years, there was no female doctor and gynecologist in Spira health clinic; the residents had to shift their patients to Khost city, 55 km from the town, as a result, many patients would lose life on the way to reach hospital.

 

They have access to a health clinic in their town, but it lacks personnel and medicines, said Rahimullah Gurbaz, a resident of Gurbaz district.

 

They were compelled to purchase medicines from private pharmacy shops when their patients were examined by doctors, he said, the move would lead to the death of many patients, if the problems remain unresolved.

 

The residents of provincial capital have no access to potable water, Ajmal Halal, a resident of Khost city said.

 

He said Afghan government and international community failed to respect the pledges they have made in this regard over the past decade.

 

The residents in provincial capital were purchasing their needed water from water tankers.

 

A number of people in some areas of the town were drinking water that stored in the ponds, Qadir Mangal, a resident of Musa Khel district said. He warned that many people would be affected by infectious disease, if authorities did not pay attention to the issue.  

 

Meanwhile, many farmers in the province complained that Afghan government did not distribute improved seed during the farming season.

 

A farmer, Wali Gul said that he grew his land each year, but it yielded fewer crops due to non-existence of improved seeds.  

 

He said if Afghan government distributed improved seeds to the farmers, their farms would yield more crops, which would be exported to other provinces, in addition to meeting demands of Khost people.

 

Despite, the significant achievements in education sector over the past years, 50 percent schools lack building here, where many students were getting education under blue sky, education director, Bakhtnor Bakhtiar said.

 

But they already have shared the issue with central administration in Kabul and donor agencies, who pledged to address the problems, he said.

 

There are two schools for boys and girls, but it lacked buildings, and the schools would get shut down when the weather get stormy or rainy, Gul Jan Kochai, a resident of Babrak Tana area said.
