KUNDUZ CITY/MAIMANA (PAN): Afghan security personnel launched search operations in the Dasht-i-Archi district of northern Kunduz province on Monday, while three insurgents were killed during a clash in northern Faryab province.
The offensive was launched after the Taliban attacked a checkpoint in the Amir Malik area of the district, said the deputy police chief, Col. Ibadullah Talwar. One fighter was killed and two others were wounded in retaliatory fire from police.
Regular police, Afghan Local Police and army special force soldiers are conducting the operation, with support from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), in the Amir Maluch, Nahr-i-Kohna, Damshakh, Taraki and Tepa-i-Sarfaraz, said the district chief, Sheikh Sadruddin Saadi.
Separately, three insurgents were killed and six others wounded in an overnight clash with Afghan soldiers in the Do Aabi area of Ghormach district of Faryab province, said a spokesman for the first brigade of 209th Shahin Military Crops, Maj. Mohammad Raza.
