KABUL and other issues.

Afghanistan’s Minister of Defence Gen. Bismillah Mohammadi and representatives from the United Nations and the European Union would also attend the two-day meeting, NATO’s senior civilian representative (SCR) spokesman said.

Dominic Medley told reporters in Kabul NATO’s SCR in Afghanistan and the ISAF commander would brief the ministers, who would discuss issues including security transition, the ISAF campaign and the future Resolute Support mission.

The ministers would discuss the significant milestone due soon, when the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) would take the lead for security across the country, he said.

“At the same time, ISAF’s main effort will shift from combat to support. By the end of 2014, Afghan forces will be fully responsible for security in their country and NATO’s commitment to support them continues,” he said.

Apart from discussions on Afghanistan, Medley added, many other topics of interest to the alliance would figure during two days meeting. The main ISAF meeting will be on Wednesday.

“NATO has made clear many times that the Afghan National Security Forces are capable and growing in experience. At the same time the NATO commitment to Afghanistan will be enduring with the new mission, Resolute Support,” he said.
