KABUL): A former district chief was gunned down in what appeared to be a targeted killing in southern Zabul province, while two civilians were killed when insurgents attacked Afghan Local Police (ALP) members in Ghazni, officials said on Saturday.

Taliban insurgents attacked Rozi Khan, a former district chief for the Shajoye district, on Saturday morning and killed him, the town’s administrative head, Mohammad Siddique, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Khan had no government job and he was a tribal elder and had been active resolving people’s problems, Siddique said.

The two civilians were killed when Taliban militants opened fire at ALP members who were shopping in a bazaar of the Andar district of southern Ghazni province on Friday.

The incident occurred in the Chahardiwal bazaar, the district chief, Mohammad Qasim Desiwal, said. Another three civilians were wounded and some shops were damaged in the incident, he added.

Resident Mohammad Rafique, whose shop was damaged in the attack, said the Taliban fired mortar shells into the bazaar and used light weapons, damaging his and several other shops.
