KABUL, allowing university lecturers to elect chancellors through elections.
The Justice Ministry had sent the draft to the lower house nearly seven years ago. Debates on the draft had led to verbal and physical clashes between lawmakers over some terminologies including one used for university “Danish Gadah” mentioned in the law draft.
The house has so far been unable to fully endorse the long pending law, but a majority of house members on Monday voted to approve some of its clauses.
The government has suggested university chancellors should be appointed by the president, but legislators amended the clause, saying there should be fair elections among university lecturers to elect chancellors for a period of three years.
