JALALABAD (PAN): Four insurgents were killed and two others wounded during a clash with police in Surkhrod district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.
The pre-dawn clash broke out around 3am Wednesday in the Shamsh Pur area, said the provincial police chief, Masoom Khan Hashimi, who claimed the insurgents were planning to ambush security forces.
Before the clash, he said the police used loudspeakers asking the Taliban to surrender, but they opened fire, killing one policeman.
Four armed insurgents were killed and two injured militants were captured, said Hashimi, who added a civilian also got hurt.
The group had been involved in making roadside bombs and other insurgent activities, the police chief said. Police seized some explosives and bomb making materials at the clash site.
Resident Imran said the early morning clash that lasted five hours came to an end around 8am.
