JALALABAD (PAN): A provincial council (PC) member on Saturday said Afghan Local Police (ALP) members shot dead his cousin and injured his two brothers in eastern Nangarhar province.
Javed Zaman told Pajhwok Afghan News his brothers and cousin, the slain driver, were travelling in the Khogyani district on Friday when guards of an ALP commander opened fire at their vehicle.
He said tribal elders, his family members and hundreds of area residents had brought the dead body to Jalalabad to protest the killing.
Tribal elder and uncle of Zaman, Hajji Aman Khairi, accused Governor Gul Agha Sherzai of distributing weapons to irresponsible individuals and asked the central government to take serious measures in this regard.
He said a local police commander, Jan Mohammad, had carried out the gun attack that killed and wounded his relatives. “If the attackers are not punished, the Khogyani tribe would pick up guns against the government,” he warned.
The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, said an official delegation had been sent to the area for investigation.
