KABUL its associate membership at the council annual conference held in London, officials said on Thursday.

Afghanistan Cricket Board’s spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghanistan had long been trying to be promoted to the second tier of ICC membership, adding Afghanistan had met all ICC conditions in this regard.

He said ACB Chief Executive Dr. Noor Mohammad Murad attended the ICC Annual Conference week that began in London on Tuesday with the associate and affiliate members at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Murad said he presented Afghanistan’s application for the associate membership and briefed the ICC on efforts Afghanistan had made with regard to the sport’s promotion and achievements and future plans.

He congratulated the people of Afghanistan, cricket players and lovers on the achievement, vowing to continue their efforts at obtaining full membership.

“Afghanistan is the only country that receives the associate membership in a short period of time in reward to the efforts Afghanistan made for the promotion of cricket,” he said.
