HEART CITY (PAN group in western Herat province on Thursday asked his former colleagues to cease fire after they had opened their political office in Qatar.

“There is no need to continue fighting after the opening of Doha office,” said Mullah Sehat, who led the 17-member group.

Sehat said his group would never return to insurgency and would instead play its part in maintaining peace.

The group was honoured at a welcoming ceremony held at the governor’s house.

Thirteen members of the group had been active in Kashak Kuhna district and four in Rubat Sangi district, according to Deputy Governor Asiluddin Jami.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the group turned in some weapons and promised not to be involved in anti-government activities anymore.

Some other Taliban groups have also joined in the peace process in Harat.

Officials say about 6000 insurgents have so far joined the peace dirve across the county.
