JALALABAD/SHARAN (PAN): A fighter, two Afghan soldiers and as many civilians have been killed in separate incidents in different parts of the country, officials said on Monday.

One militant was killed and five others were wounded during a clash triggered by a rebel attack on a police patrol in Batikot district, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zai Abdulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A shopkeeper was also killed in gunfire from militants during the two-hour clash that erupted at 5am when, said provincial police spokesman, Maj. Hazrat Husain Mashriqiwal.

But a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed three policemen had been killed and five others wounded in the firefight. He also confirmed the death of one fighter and the shopkeeper.

Two Afghan soldiers were killed and three others wounded in militant attacks in Kajaki, Sangin and Greshk districts of southern Helmand province, a statement from the Ministry of Defence said.

Separately, militants shot dead a civilian in Paktika province on the charge of having links with the government, said police chief, Brig. Gen. Dawlat Khan Zadran. The victim had no job in the government, he added.
