KABUL): The holy month of Ramazan would begin on July 9, with the moon likely to be sighted on Monday, a noted Afghan astrologist predicted on Tuesday.
Abdullah Kandahari told Pajhwok Afghan News the moon could be seen on Monday in some parts of Saudi Arabia and Morocco. The first sahar (predawn meals) time will end at 3.02am and Iftar would take place at 7.15pm, Kandahari said.
But a Saudi astrologist, Dr. Ali Al-Sokri, said the moon would be visible only in US and could be sighted on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia. The Ramadan, therefore, would commence on Wednesday. He said a final decision would be taken by the Saudi Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ruet-i-Hilal Committee said it would meet on Tuesday to receive moon-sighting evidence. But the Metrological Department said the moon would be invisible on Tuesday in Pakistan and the first day of Ramadan would fall on Thursday.
