KABUL insurgents have been killed during separate incidents over the past 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.
Two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and 14 others were wounded on Tuesday noon when a mortar shell exploded during a military exercise in eastern Laghman province.
The blast occurred in the Ganbari desert area, said the 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman, Col. Noman Hatifi.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the wounded soldiers had been taken to the civil hospital in neighbouring Nangarhar province.
The hospital director confirmed receiving two dead bodies and 14 wounded soldiers at the hospital. He said some of the wounded soldiers were in critical condition.
In northern Kunduz, three Taliban fighters and a policeman were killed during a clash in the Archi district on Monday, the district chief, Sadruddin Saadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the clash broke out after the rebels attacked a police post in Pul-i-Noor area. Police seized some weapons from the attackers during the clash that lasted two hours.
Elsewhere in the province, three policemen were wounded when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Ismail Qushlaq area of Imam Sahib district, said the town’s administrative chief, Amaanuddin Qureshi.
In central Parwan, three militants were killed during a joint police and army operation in the Sheikh Ali district.
A resident of the area, declining to be identified, said the operation was launched on Monday.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, however, claimed six policemen were killed and 13 others were wounded during an ambush in the district.
