MAIMANA (PAN): Six militants were killed in an operation by security personnel while 15 people others, including a legislator’s relatives, were abducted by insurgents in northern Faryab province, officials said Thursday.
A group of Taliban member Fathullah Qaisari and took away six weapons during house searches in Jagdalak village, said the administrative head of the town.
Abdul Jamil Siddiqui told Pajhwok Afghan News after the incident, Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and area people launched a search operation, killing six militants and injuring two others.
Rahmatullah, a brother of the MP, said his father was released after being beaten by the captors. But his brother, nephew and cousins are among the 15 people still in Taliban’s captivity.
He claimed that 14 insurgents have so far killed and 10 others wounded during the ongoing clash with the fighters.
Provincial council secretary Syed Abdul Baqi Hashmi said a woman and a child were also killed in the fire exchange.
But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said they captured Jagdalak village and seized12 tribal militiamen with nine Kalashnikovs as a result of an attack on their checkpoint.
