$7m projects executed in Takhar
TALOQAN (PAN): Fourteen irrigation and construction projects, benefitting more than 50,000 families, have been executed in the northern province of Takhar, officials said on Saturday.
The projects included the construction of a canal, waterheads, retaining walls and dams which were completed over the past three months in Taloqan, the provincial capital, Dasht-i-Qala, Farkhar, Yangi Qala and Baharak districts.
Irrigation department official, Eng. Mohammad Salim Akbar, said the projects were implemented at a cost of more than $7million provided by the Ministry of Water and Energy, Germany, an NGO consortium and the Aga Khan Network.
Work opportunities were provided for 17,000 people during the implementation of the schemes. As a result, the local economy was also strengthened to some extent, the official added.
