KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Work was formally launched on a new building for the Department of Commerce and Industries in southern Kandahar province on Saturday.

Governor Toryalai Weesa took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project in Kandahar City, the provincial capital, a statement from the governor’s house said. Also in attendance was the director of commerce and industries, the deputy mayor and other department heads.

Weesa told participants of the ceremony: “The two-storey building being funded by the Ministry of Commerce and Industries will cost 15 million afghanis.” The building being constructed by a local company will take nine months to complete.

He had ordered Commerce and Industries as well as Urban Development Departments to closely monitor the scheme to make sure it was successfully implemented, the governor said, hoping the project would help resolve the current problems that he did not identify.
