KABUL): The holy month of Ramadan would start on Wednesday, July 10, the Supreme Court announced late on Monday night, saying the moon was not sighted anywhere in the country.
The moon was not seen in Saudi Arabia either and the first of Ramadan will thus be observed on Wednesday. the first sahar (predawn meal) time will end at 3.02am and Iftar will take place at 7.15pm.
Fasting is the third of the five pillars of Islam. A healthy, adult and sane Muslim has to fast one month a year. Ramadan is also a month of forgiveness and during the last 10 days, one night is called Lailat-ul-Qadar, and a prayer on that night is worth more than 1,000 months of worship.
