TIRINKOT (PAN): A former district chief was gunned down by assailants on a motorbike in central Uruzgan province on Tuesday, an official said.

Syed Rasul Khan, ex-administrative head of Charchino district, came under gun attack in the first police district of Tirinkot, the provincial capital.

Abdullah Himmat, the Uruzgan governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Khan had no government job after he left his district chief assignment some months ago.

With police looking for the attackers, no one has been detained so far in connection with Khan’s assassination, according to the spokesman, who said the shooting happened at 9am.

On Sunday, two district chiefs were wounded in a roadside bombing in the southern province of Ghazni. Haji Fazal Ahmad and Sher Khan Yousafzai, administrative heads of Deh Yak and Zankhan districts respectively, were injured in Khushk area.
