GARDEZ (PANinfo-icon): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a provincial member of the High Peace Councilinfo-icon in the Chamkani district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Wednesday.

Syed Badshah Mangal, the peace negotiator, was wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his car on Tuesday evening in the main bazaar of the district.

However, he succumbed to serious wounds later at hospital, the council’s provincial head, Maulviinfo-icon Khaliqdad, told Pajhwok Afghan News. An investigation has been launched into Mangal’s murder.

Provincial council head, Khaista Jan Ahadi, condemned the peace negotiator’s assassination. He asked the militants to shun violent activities and join the reconciliation drive.
