HERAT CITY (PAN): The foundation stone for the paramedical institute was launched in the western province of Herat on Thursday, officials said.

Governor Fazlullah Wahidi told the foundation stone-laying ceremony the construction of the building was important for training health workers.

He insisted on the use of quality material in construction of the four-storey building, which would take one year to complete.

The project would cost nearly 38 million afghanis provided by Japan, Director of Public Works Dr. Ghulam Saeed Rashid told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Up to 270 students — 80 percent of them female — are enrolled at nursing and midwifery departments of the institute, he said.

After the construction of the building, pharmacy, laboratory, stomatology and X-ray branches would be also open at the institute, he said.
