KABUL): Up to 800 newly recruited Afghan Special Forces and commando members completed 12-week training course in Kabul, officials said on Thursday.

At a certificate-awarding ceremony, Special Operation Unit commander Brig. Gen. Syed Abdul Karim said with the passing out of the latest batch that was trained to NATO standards, the the unit strength had reached more than 12,000.

“The Special Forces Unit is imbued with the spirit of fighting against militants and acquiring techniques of combating ruthless enemies; they were determined to bring peace and stability to the country,” he remarked.

Chief of Army Staff Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi praised the Special Forces and asked them to be more careful in performing their duties and beware of propaganda being spread by Afghanistan’s enemies.

Although the enemies of the country knew they could not change the system, they were trying to perpetuate the war in order to prevent Afghanistan’s reconstruction, Gen. Karimi concluded.
