KABUL): Four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and five militants have been killed and nine rebels detained over the past 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.

The four troops were lost to separate roadside bombings in Logar, Herat, Maidan Wardak and Helmand provinces during the period, the Ministry of Defence said, providing no further details.

Two militants, planting roadside bombs, were killed as a result of a NATO airstrike in southern Ghazni province on Saturday night. The airstrike took place in Arzu village on the outskirts of Ghazni City, said the governor’s secretary, Nabi Jan.

He added another three insurgents were killed during a clash with Afghan Local Police personnel in the Qarabagh district on Saturday. The clash erupted after the fighters attacked a local police post in Niazi area.

Also in Ghazni, eight fighters loyal to Taliban) agents, the provincial intelligence department said in a statement.

Separately, a Haqqani Network commander named Mirwais was arrested by security forces in Zarghon Khar area of Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province, the governor’s spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwesh, said.

Some ammunitions and explosives were recovered from his possession, he said
