KABUL): The National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday decided to accelerate the process of repairing old weapons and vehicles, as well as purchasing transport aircraft for Afghan Air Force (AAF).

An NSC meeting, chaired by President Hamid Karzai, was held at the Presidential Palace. The participants conferred on the overall security environment, a statement from president’s office said.

Karzai spoke about recent regional developments and their effect on peace and stability in Afghanistan, according to the brief statement.

He asked the ministries of defence and interior, the National Directorate of Security and Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) to put in place tight security measures.

The president stressed improved security during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid days to thwart possible threats from the enemies of peace.

The council voiced concern over the security situation in the Azra district of central Logar province and Hesarak district of eastern Nangarhar. It asked security forces to try their best to bring stability to the districts.

The participants called for speeding up repairs of weapons, military vehicles and the process of buying transport aircraft for the AAF, the statement concluded.
