TALOQAN/PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN-designated district chief was among seven insurgents detained in northern Takhar and Baghlan provinces, officials said on Monday.

The Taliban’s chief for the Chal district of Takhar was caught while planting a roadside bomb on the outskirts of Taloqan, the provincial capital, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.

A statement from the spy service said the captive had admitted to receiving bomb-making training from Uzbek trainers with the Jundullah group in North Waziristan Agency.

Six militants including a Taliban commander’s brother were held during an operation in the Zikarkhel village of Baghlan-i-Markazi district, said the police chief, Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Rustaqi.

But a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said foreign troops had raided the house of a religious scholar and arrested five civilians on Sunday night.
