 KABUL — one of the five largest international historical marvels — earned the impoverished country nearly 196 million afghanis ($3.5m), an official said on Thursday.

Director-General of the Afghanistan National Museum Omara Khan Massoudi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the overseas shows attracted more than three million visitors in different countries over the past seven years.

The treasure has 231 types of historical objects, including 3,000 years old sculptures and decorative pieces made of gold, iron and bronze.

It was found in Ganjina Bakhtar, Aai Khanam, Bagram and Falol Hill areas of northern Balkh province, according to Massoud, who said some potteries dated back to 15th century BC.

More than $3.2 million (182.3 m afs) were earned though Bakhtaria Treasure exhibitions in France, Italy, Holland, Canada, Germany, the UK and Norway, he said.

Currently the reassure is on show in the Melbourne city of Australia, where it earned $250,000 More than three million people visited the treasures in the countries.

Japan, Poland and Russia have also requested the Ministry of Information and Culture to display the artifacts there.
