JALALABAD (PAN): A day after the Attorney General Office (AGO) put lawmaker Anwar Sadat on the exit control list (ECL), hundreds of youth set alight his portrait during a protest in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday.
AGO spokesman Basir Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News Sadat, the lower house member from northern Sar-i-Pul province, had been put on ECL and directed through a letter to appear before prosecutors for investigations.
Hundreds of activists of a youth organisation staged a protest demonstration against Sadat in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, calling for his trial.
The protestors, who gathered at the Pakhtunistan Square, strongly condemned the legislator for his anti-Pashtun remarks. The organistaion head, Omar Arab, said the MP had insulted the majority tribe at the behest of his foreign backers.
Sadat should be tried and made an example for others, he suggested, demanding the lawmaker be disqualified and denied refuge in a foreign country.
Another speaker, Hussain Ahmad, urged the Uzbek community to disown Sadat as their representative because he was trying to fan tribal differences in the country.
Before issuing a three-article resolution, the protestors set on fire a portrait of Sadat. In the resolution, the demonstrators sought the public representative’s trial and his suspension as a Wolesi Jirga member.
