GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Two Pakistanis were among a dozen insurgents killed during a bomb explosion and a security operation in southern Ghazni and central Maidan Wardak provinces, officials said on Wednesday.

The Pakistanis were killed along with two Afghans when explosives they possessed went off inside a mosque in the Joi Shash area of Andar district in Ghazni, 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman Nazifullah Sultani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The insurgents had stopped in the area on Tuesday night to offer Taraveeh prayers when the blast took place at 12am, when local worshippers had already left the mosque.

A resident of the area, Mohammad Akram, said the Taliban had entered the mosque while carrying the explosives. Only the insurgents were killed in the incident, he said.

In Maidan Wardak, seven insurgents were killed and four others wounded during a security operation in Ismailkhel area of Jalriz district on Tuesday night, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani said.

An eighth militant was killed and three others wounded during a clash with security forces in the Syedabad, he added. Some ammunitions and explosives were also seized.

The Taliban did not comment on the said incidents, but their spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed heavy casualties were inflected on Afghan forces in various areas of Ghazni and Wardak over the past 24 hours.
