GARDEZ (PAN): More than 50 weapons were handed to Disarmament of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) officials in southeastern Paktika province on Friday.

Speaking at an arms transfer ceremony, Governor Mohibullah Samim said that the weapons seized by law-enforcers were to be turned in to DIAG in compliance with a presidential decree.

The 52 light and heavy arms were seized during search operations by Paktika police over the past few months, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

Brig. Gen. Dawlat Khan Zadran, the provincial police chief, said five rockets, two machine guns, 24 Kalashnikov assault rifles, 20 guns, 300 kilograms of a banned fertiliser and ammunitions had been surrendered to DIAG.
